Book Boyfriend of the Week #5

This is a meme created by Reading and Things for bloggers to talk about their book boyfriends and tease the readers with things they've said.

Want to participate?

Then all you have to do is:

1) Pick a book boyfriend, it can be from the book your currently reading or from one you've already read.

2) Write what kind of boyfriend he is, and if you want, say why you think that.

3) Pick a quote from his book, long or short, that proves he is the kind of boyfriend you said he is.

4) Make sure the quote, and the explanation DO NOT give away anything from the book (we want all of the twists and plot surprises to remain surprises).

5) Share it! And shout it out using the #Reading and Things.

My pick for my Book Boyfriend of the Week Emane from the Solus Trilogy by Devri Walls  WIngs of Arian, Wings of Tavea and Wings of Nestor, though there is a 4th book, so not sure why its still called a trilogy, lol. Below are some teasers from the first book, Wings of Arian. Its a great series, its a fantasy book (paranormal romance, its YA age category)

You can go to my post for the series review (non-spoiler) and for the first chapter of book one if you want. Check out the others in the series, and the amazing covers for them, especially book fours cover. Go Here for that post

If you want to participate in this, and need the button and banners, I made them, and have 4 versions of them, I have them the last post HERE, so grab the one you want.

Teaser 1 (jerk/arrogant)
“Do you remember when we first met?” she asked, folding her arms in front of her. “You mistook me for a servant, handed me your laundry, and then was angry with me for not agreeing to do it anyway.”
He smothered a smile, “Most girls would have done the laundry.”
Her mouth twisted ruefully. Shaking her head, she said, “I knew that was the problem.”
“That you wouldn’t do my laundry? Please, Kiora, I have more than one...”
“No, you aren’t used to anyone standing up to you.”
“That’s ridiculous,” he scoffed.
“Really? You still seem to have problems with me standing up to you; or at least failing to grovel at your feet.” Like all the other girls, she thought.

Teaser 2 (sweet)
Emane put his hand behind her neck and pulled her into him. He kissed her, hard. It was desperate and strong and so much different from the first time he had kissed her. He softened his grip on her neck and kissed her again.
“Emane,” she whispered, “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t hurt me, Kiora.”

Teaser 3 (romantic)
“Kiora,” he said, leaning in as if he wanted to move forward but was riveted in place, “I love you.”
Tears rose to her eyes and guilt stabbed her heart, “Emane,” she pleaded, gripping her head, “don’t, please, I don’t deserve it.”
“Why?” he demanded, lurching forward, “Why don’t you deserve it?”
“Because, I can’t…I mean, I’m not ready to…” she stopped and buried her head into her knees.
He knelt beside her, “Because you can’t tell me that you love me?” A sob racked her body. “It’s okay, Kiora.” She felt his hand tentative on her back. “I am willing to wait until you are ready.”
Kiora squeezed her eyes even tighter, “Why?” Her voice was muffled from being shoved into her knees.
“Because,” he spoke with gut wrenching intensity, “you are worth waiting for.”

Book Description:

Daphne Foster is a substitute teacher stuck in an English class, waiting for that dreaded parent-teacher conference. With much preparation and anxiety, she encounters the unforgettable Charlie Cross. His charm and good looks, win her over but rumors of his involvement with organized crime make his continued disappearances disturbing.

In walks Heathcliff Vanderpool, creating a love triangle of unusual sorts. Unknown to Daphne, Heathcliff and Charlie are old friends: Older than she could have imagined. With Charlie away on business, Daphne and Heathcliff discover a passion between them lying beneath the surface. As their souls link, pulling away from Charlie becomes next to impossible. Will his involvement in organized crime consume them both before she’s able to get free? When you become “linked,” the choice may not be your own.

This book has some great details and is a suspense/thriller/paranormal book, which I truly enjoyed. It has a great paranormal twist that I have not read before. Where a human can be Linked to a vampire (their souls link), then that vampire starts to gain their humanity back. That is a cool concept and not one I had read about before.
The story was written very well, and the ending was pretty unexpected for me, had my jaw hanging open, lol. There are a few parts that could have done with some fewer details, but that’s still better than not enough.

The whole gangsters are vampires is also a new one for me, but very interesting, and the plot was fast paced and had lots of suspense, so you didn’t want to stop reading. I liked the characters and really liked how the author brought them to life for me.

I do not want to spoil anything, so won’t go into any real details, so do not worry, lol.
I think most the ladies out there will really like Charlie Cross, he has that Bad boy vibe and is a vampire too. Yeah, it’s a thrill to read.

If you would like to read a vampire tale that is different, and you like suspense and thrillers, with some paranormal romance too, you will love this.

I highly recommend it, and give it 4 ½ out of 5 stars .

I was provided a copy of this book for my honest review.

You can find this review at Goodreads , here, and Amazon , here.

Excerpt:
“Mr. Cross,” I started, leaning into him so that no one else could hear me. “What are you doing here?”
“It’s nice to see you too, Miss Foster.”
“I think we’re passed the formalities now, don’t you?” I asked.
“Daphne, then.” My name played so softly on his lips that I shuddered, and embarrassingly so. He smiled. “Then you must call me Charlie.” He kissed the backs of my hands. “I see I already have a positive effect on you.”
“Don’t read too much into it,” I told him. “It’s just a chill.”
“Or maybe a warm sensation,” he whispered, putting his finger on my face and tracing it down to my lips. I swallowed hard and I know my face was yet again bright red.
I looked over at Janice who was having a pleasant conversation with his brother. Then I looked back at him. “Does your wife know you frequent schools to pick up teachers?” I asked.
“You mean substitute teachers,” he answered. I stuck my tongue out at him. “I like when you do that.”
“Stop it,” I whispered harshly. “Look. I’m sure I’m not the type of woman that you’re used to. Especially since I know first hand that you’re married, and I think I already mentioned that I don’t date married men.”
The waitress showed up with four shots of tequila. I looked at him in amazement. “Really?” I asked.
“Come on, Daphne, let go a little,” Janice added, shining like a brand new diamond.
We downed the shots and Charlie got a little too close. “I find you irresistible, Daphne.” He leaned in so that he was almost whispering in my ear. “I don’t know what it is about you, but I must have you.” He took my hand and brought it to his cheek.
“What is it that you do, Mr. Cross?” I asked.
“I thought we were past formalities.”
“Charlie,” I corrected. “Sorry. What do you do for a living?”
“I’m a businessman,” he answered. “Acquisitions are my specialty.”
“And what exactly do you acquire?” I asked. “And please do not say women.”
“I do not buy and sell women,” he answered, his voice getting suddenly harsh. “But when I see something I want, I go after it until it yields to me.”
I pulled my hand away from his face and looked at him. He was most unsettling. “You think I’m just going to fall right into your arms, don’t you, Charlie.”
“Not into my arms, necessarily,” he answered. “but certainly into my bed.”

Ok, so I had to at least share the beautiful cover for book 4 in this series. You can go to Goodreads to read about it.

BOOK 4
Wings of Lomay
Devri Walls
Series: Solus #4

This is a series review, so I will give my opinion of them all as a whole. I will not mentions details of the 2nd and 3rd books, that way, anyone who hasn't read any of them will not read spoilers here.

So, overall for the 3 books so far, this series is amazing. I really fell in love with Emane and Kiora. I really connected with Kiora, she is a sweet but strong girl. Emane in the first book was a little arrogant in the start, but sure changed a lot, and showed some real feelings for Kiora. I really loved the blossoming romance between them.

The story just escalates from the first. As I said I wont do any spoilers, but wanted to say it just gets better and better as the series goes one.

I also love the covers of the books, except book one does not fit, the cover hints that it is Emane on the cover, but he has blond hair and blue eyes, so showing a guy with short brown/black hair doesn't fit. The thing on his arm is right out of the book, so its why I think its him.

The other covers are great too.

So, if you like Fantasy books with some cool magic, then pick this series up. You won’t be sorry. It’s amazing, I could not read it fast enough. Now I want to read book 4. I did originally think it was a trilogy, but seen there is a 4th book.

5 out of 5 stars for all 3 books. (I will put separate reviews of each book up at Goodreads and Amazon as soon as I get them written individually for those who would like to know more on each of them)

I was provided copies of all 3 books from the author for my honest reviews.

In the Shadows of Eden

by Rebekah Armusik

This copy is signed by both the author, and her husband Eric who did the oil painting of the book cover. Isn’t it gorgeous? I love that all the covers will be unique to this series, not re-use of models for covers like you see all over the place. I also was so honored that on the back cover there is a piece of my review from previous books, how exciting!!
I also received a ebook version for review, now I can keep the signed one in mint shape by reading the ebook instead.

In the fifth novel of the epic Gothic tale, Nadija and Alexei are given back their memories and graces by Saint Michael. During their voyage into the past, they remember all the secrets buried deep within the shadows of Eden that bolstered the epic fall. Armed with this new knowledge, they are more prepared for battle as they discover even more disquieting revelations, sickening deceit and hidden treasures.

Andromeda Rising (Signed Paperback!)

by James Ramsey

Won the print book signed in a giveaway, I already had the ebook for a book tour, you can read my review, here if you want, with an excerpt too.

I should have been paying attention. Growing up on the run from religious fanatics gave me more than a few good reasons to be careful, but I was just too tired to be as vigilant as I should have been. My mind was occupied with my latest case—a missing nine year old girl. I was usually good at my job, but sometimes I needed a little extra help from magick. I always managed to track down a cheating spouse or the occasional runaway, but now it seemed more children were missing from the streets of Seattle and nothing I did worked.

A cat jumped on my shoulder and jerked me from my exhaustion induced stupor. I spun into a defensive crouch only to see the cat had landed on the sidewalk behind me.

Time seemed to stop for a moment when the cat spoke.

“RUN!”

My name is Jocelyn Matthews and if I live through tonight, I’ll tell you all about my life as a witch.
